In the year 2006-07 Usha Martin found that one of the major constraints faced by the customers of wire rope was the fatigue failure of rope. Usha Martin extended its effort in designing and re-innovating rope having higher fatigue resistance and longer life. Usha Martin made observations at customer’s site to understand the loading cycles the rope was subjected during its application. After collecting the data from site and integrating the data with research, Usha Martin designed a rope that exhibited property of high fatigue resistance on testing. After successful testing results, Usha Martin, in the year 2007 manufactured more flexible construction shovels and dragline – Hoist rope, Drag Rope to increase the fatigue resistance. These ropes were manufactured as 8X50SF, 8X37SF, 8X43SF, and 8X49SF construction and supplied to customers. These ropes are designed to provide a delightful experience to customers by their extended abrasion and fatigue life because of more number of point contact for 8-strand rope than 6-strand rope that increases the contact area with the sheave and drum grooves. The higher abrasion resistance due to larger outer wire diameter, increased fatigue resistance due to more Flexible construction, and longer bending fatigue life because of unique process of compaction provide longer life to rope. The improved inter wire contact ensures that the rope operates in lower stress level and reduces wear on rope and sheave by improving rope to sheave contact area and smooth surface of compacted strand. The improved resistance to shock loading due to plastic impregnation cushions the strands and prevents inter strand contact. The plastic filled ropes keeps the internal lubricant intact and keeps out dirt and dust, and ensures safety by providing a clean working environment (locked Lubrication inside the rope).
